  • So I was forced to scrounge up lunch for myself today. Upon searching the fridge, I saw... ham... cheese... a couple of tomato slices... and something else.

Top it off with a sweet homemade mustard that is well-loved in my family...

I'm here to tell you it was waaay better than I ever hoped. Now, I like grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, and when there are tomatoes to add, that makes them all the better. However, the jalapenos combined with the sweet mustard was a complete stroke of genius. The burning from the peppers was perfectly complemented by the sweetness of the mustard. Needless to say, the sandwiches lasted mere minutes.

My spring semester is winding down. Thank goodness. Here's the scoop for my weekend to come - keep in mind that I've already spent 4 full days in class thi, studying on my breaks, and studying mornings and evenings...

If you add all that up, its a rather industrious way to spend a weekend. 12 similar weekends down, 3 to go... I think I've got a pretty good chance of keeping my 4.0. God is good, all the time.

  • Finished fall semester. 4.0 still in tact. Check.
Went to Dubai. Love Robyn. Check
Started Spring Semester. Got Swamped. Check.

That's pretty much the story of my life, the past 5 months. The fall semester finished up strong. I had done well enough throughout the semester that I needed a 30, a 50, and a 75 on 3 of my final exams to get A's in the courses. Nothing like taking a final exam that you're not stressed out on.

My trip to the UAE was wonderful... Beth and I spent 3 weeks in the 75+ weather. Got a tan. Went Dune Bashing. Climbed a mountain and spent the night. Watched a sunrise or 2. Worked on planning a wedding. Talked about the rest of our lives. (6 more months...)

This semester has been a swamp. Until recently, I was spending 70+ hours a week studying. Things have finally started to settle into a routine now and I'm hopeful that it'll be ok. I really hope to keep straight A's through this semester... but... we'll see. I love my classes, I really do. It's a good thing, because I really have no life outside of school, and those blessed phone calls...

  • These 40 pages of Statics homework represent about 30 hours of my labor since noon on Friday. There was some serious sweat and blood shed on a couple of them...

    I enjoyed it.

Core Beliefs

As a Christian, I believe that the Bible (as it was originally written) is completely inspired by God, and 100% accurate. As such, I desire to base my life, in its entirety, on the principles it contains. By personal choice, I am part of a Mennonite Church, for I feel the safe guards that it sets are well worth the "pain" and even the occasional "inconvenience" that they will entail.

Personal

I live at home with my parents and 4 younger siblings. I'm engaged to be married to Robyn Johnson, who is living in the United Arab Emirates. We plan to get married as soon as she and her family move back to the US, sometime in August, 2009.

School

I am enrolled in a 2+3 program with my local community college and the University of Virginia. Yes this greatly pains Hokiegreggie's heart. My degree is a B.S. in Engineering Sciences, which will be a combination of Mechanical and Materials Science. I will be taking 20 credits this fall, and I need a 3.4 GPA to receive automatic acceptance in UVa.

Quite possibly the biggest physical blessing of my life has come to me in the form of a full scholarship, courtesy of AREVA. AREVA is a worldwide company that produces and maintains nuclear power plants. I interned with a Mechanical and Materials Science Group within AREVA this summer, and I will continue to work at AREVA throughout my college career
